Reading a Hashrate Benchmark Report
Our hashrate benchmark reports are designed for operations teams who need to attach evidence to internal purchase approvals. Here is how to read the key sections.
Sustained Average vs Peak
The sustained average is the figure that matters for revenue projections. We calculate this from hourly logs across 72 hours, excluding the first four hours (boot and thermal stabilisation). Peak hashrate — the highest single-hour reading — appears in manufacturer marketing but rarely holds in pilot room conditions.
A sustained average within 3% of manufacturer claims is typical for quality hardware. Variance beyond 5% warrants investigation: thermal throttling, firmware configuration, or pool connectivity issues are the usual causes.
Standard Deviation
Low standard deviation (under 1.5% of mean) indicates stable operation. Higher deviation often correlates with ambient temperature swings in rooms without climate control. If your report shows standard deviation above 2%, check whether temperature logs in the same report show corresponding patterns.
Thermal Throttle Events
Each throttle event is logged with timestamp, duration, and temperature at throttle point. A unit that throttles twice in 72 hours at 28°C ambient may throttle continuously during summer afternoons in a west-wall storage room. This section of the report directly informs rack positioning recommendations.
Fan Speed Correlation
We plot fan RPM against hashrate and temperature. Rising fan speed with stable temperature suggests dust accumulation on heatsinks. Rising fan speed with rising temperature suggests inadequate room ventilation. Distinguishing these two patterns prevents misdiagnosing hardware problems when the room is the issue.

Attach the sustained average and standard deviation to your procurement documents. Reference thermal throttle events when negotiating warranty terms or supplier credits. Share the fan correlation chart with your facilities team for ventilation planning.
